Peer-to-Peer Group

The study on the intervention's commitment, practicality, and acceptance found that experienced participants valued their peers' ability to engage and provide support. Recent research emphasizes the role of veteran peers in promoting formal therapy. A peer-to-peer program for veterans acknowledges that peer support can strengthen cultural ties and minimize suicide risk by improving initial treatment and committment (Greden et al., 2010). This is a clinically focused peer collaboration aiming at improving clinical care or official services. STAIVA's veteran suicide prevention and mental health awareness programs promote the well-being of veterans.
Through weekly peer meetings, the South Texas Afghanistan Iraq Veteran Association seeks to support both veterans and their dependents (spouses and children) with regard to mental health. Every week, we hold peer groups and discuss a range of topics dealing with mental health. Join us.
